When Perseus asked Zeus for help, the gods answered.

First came Athena, goddess of wisdom. She descended from Olympus in her shining armor.

"Perseus," she said, "you are brave but reckless! You cannot simply search for Medusa without preparation! She will turn you to stone with a single glance!"

"Then how can I defeat her?" asked Perseus.

Athena removed her shield - polished like a mirror! "Take this! Never look directly at Medusa! Use this shield as a mirror! You'll see her reflection without looking directly at her!"

"But I still need a weapon to behead her," said Perseus.

Then Hermes, messenger of the gods, appeared with wings on his feet! "I have something for you!" He handed Perseus an adamantine sword - made of the hardest metal in the universe, capable of cutting anything!

"But there's still a problem," said Hermes. "No one knows where the Gorgons live! They're hidden at the ends of the world!"

"Then how do I find them?" asked Perseus.

"You must first seek the Graeae - the Gray Women," said Athena. "They are the Gorgons' sisters. They know where Medusa is!"

"Where do I find these Graeae?" asked Perseus.

"At the extreme west of the world, where the sun never shines," answered Hermes. "But beware! The Graeae are dangerous and cunning!"

Perseus departed, flying with winged sandals that Hermes lent him! He flew over the sea, over mountains, beyond all known lands, to the place where mist was eternal!

There, in a dark and damp cave, lived the Graeae - three horrible sisters who were born old.

Their names were Enyo, Pemphredo, and Deino. They had hair white as snow, skin wrinkled like ancient parchment, and... only one eye and one tooth among the three.

"Passss the eyeee, sisterrr!" screeched one.

"I'm not done seeeing yet!" grumbled another.

They shared the single eye, passing it from hand to hand to see.

Perseus observed from afar. "How can I make them tell me where Medusa is?" he thought.

Then he had an idea! He waited for the moment when one Graea took out the eye and was passing it to another...

And Perseus Grabbed the eye from the air before the other could catch it.

"Where's the eye?" screamed one Graea!

"I had just passed it!" said another!

"You dropped it, you fool!" accused the third!

All three groped blindly, searching for the lost eye.

"Looking for this?" said Perseus, holding the eye.

The Graeae shrieked! "Who are you? Give back our eye!"

"I will return it," said Perseus, "if you tell me where to find the Gorgons!"

"Neverrr!" they hissed. "They are our sisterrrrs!"

"Then you'll remain blind forever," said Perseus calmly.

The Graeae grumbled and consulted! Finally, Enyo said: "Very well! The Gorgons live on an island beyond the river Oceanus! But you'll need more than sword and shield! You'll need the bag of invisibility and the helm of darkness!"

"Where do I find them?" asked Perseus.

"The Northern Nymphs guard them! Go to the extreme north, where ice never melts!"

Perseus returned the eye and flew north.

In the frozen far north, Perseus found the Nymphs - beautiful and kind nature spirits.

"You've come for the bag and helm?" asked the leader nymph. "Zeus told us you would come!"

They gave him:

- A magical bag (kibisis) that changed size and could hold anything - even Medusa's head.

- The Helm of Darkness (from Hades) - which made whoever wore it completely invisible.

"Now you have everything you need!" said the nymph. "But remember: Medusa was once beautiful like us! She was cursed. Don't hate her - pity her, but do what you must!"

Perseus departed for the Gorgons' island, now fully equipped.

The Gorgons' island was terrible! It was covered with statues - people and animals transformed to stone by Medusa's gaze!

There were warriors frozen in attacking poses! Sailors transformed while fleeing! Even birds petrified in mid-air!

Perseus walked carefully among the statues, with the helm of darkness making him invisible! He held Athena's shield, using it as a mirror!

And then he saw them: the three Gorgons.

Stheno and Euryale were immortal - they couldn't die! But Medusa, in the middle, was mortal!

All three were monstrous! Bronze fangs! Metal claws! And instead of hair, living serpents hissed and writhed on their heads!

They were sleeping! This was Perseus's moment!

Perseus approached Medusa carefully, looking only at her reflection in the mirrored shield.

Even sleeping, she was terrible! The snakes on her head hissed softly! Her fangs gleamed!

Perseus raised the adamantine sword! Looking only at the reflection, he... CUT!

In one clean stroke, Medusa's head was severed.

The serpents hissed in agony! The other two Gorgons woke screaming!

"Our sisterrr! Who did thisss?" roared Stheno!

But Perseus had already put the head in the magical bag (being careful not to look directly!) and put on the helm of darkness!

Invisible, he flew away while the furious Gorgons searched blindly for him.

Perseus flew back home, carrying Medusa's head in the bag! Even dead, Medusa's gaze still turned whoever saw it to stone!

While flying over Ethiopia, Perseus looked down and saw something strange: a beautiful woman chained to a cliff by the seaside.

He descended and found Andromeda - a princess about to be sacrificed to a sea monster.

"Why are you chained?" asked Perseus, shocked!

"My mother boasted that I was more beautiful than the Nereids - the sea nymphs!" cried Andromeda. "Poseidon, furious, sent a monster to destroy our kingdom! The only way to appease it is... to sacrifice me!"

Perseus looked at her! She was indeed beautiful - and brave! Even facing death, she maintained her dignity!

"No!" declared Perseus. "No one will be sacrificed today! I'll fight the monster!"

At that moment, the sea began to boil! Giant waves! And then emerged Cetus - an immense sea monster with teeth like swords and eyes red as embers!

"Go! Save yourself!" shouted Andromeda!

But Perseus didn't flee! He flew toward the monster with his sword!

Cetus tried to devour him! Perseus dodged! The monster launched water jets! Perseus flew higher!

Then Perseus had an idea! He opened the bag and took out... Medusa's head!

He held it by the snake hair (backwards, so as not to look!) and turned it toward the monster!

Cetus looked directly into Medusa's dead eyes...

And instantly turned to stone! An enormous statue of a sea monster began sinking in the ocean!

Perseus broke Andromeda's chains and freed her.

"You saved my life!" she said.

"And you touched my heart," answered Perseus. "Will you marry me?"

"Yes!" smiled Andromeda!

But there was a problem: Andromeda was already promised to another man - her uncle Phineus.

When Perseus arrived at the palace with Andromeda, Phineus was furious! "She's mine! I'll fight for her!"

Phineus attacked with a hundred soldiers! Perseus fought bravely but was outnumbered!

Then, for the last time, Perseus used the most powerful weapon he had! He took out Medusa's head and turned it toward Phineus and his soldiers!

All were transformed into stone statues.

Perseus and Andromeda were married! And then, finally, he returned to Seriphos!

When Perseus arrived in Seriphos, he found a terrible scene! Polydectes was forcing his mother Danaë to marry him! Dictys tried to defend her but was old and weak!

"POLYDECTES!" roared Perseus, entering the palace!

"Perseus?" Polydectes went pale. "Impossible! You should be dead!"

"You wanted Medusa's head?" said Perseus. "Here it is!"

And for the last time, he took the head from the bag.

Polydectes and all his cruel servants looked... and turned to stone.

Perseus made Dictys become king of Seriphos! Then he, Danaë, and Andromeda departed for Argos - Danaë's homeland!

But when they arrived in Argos, Acrisius - Perseus's grandfather - fled! He remembered the prophecy: "My grandson will kill me!"

Perseus didn't want to kill his grandfather! He searched for him to make peace!

Years later, Perseus participated in athletic games in another city. He threw a discus... but the wind diverted it! The discus flew and hit a spectator in the head, killing him!

It was Acrisius! He had gone to the games in disguise! The prophecy was fulfilled - but it was an accident! Perseus never wanted this!

Perseus wept for his grandfather! But he learned that fate cannot be cheated - only accepted with courage!

He returned all magical items to the gods! Athena took Medusa's head and placed it on her shield - the Aegis - where it would protect the goddess forever!

Perseus and Andromeda had many children! And they lived happily, always remembering the incredible adventures that united them!
