In the beginning, all was dark and still. God spoke softly, and the light came on. There was day, and there was night. And God saw that it was good.

On the second day, God opened the sky. A wide, high sky above the waters.

On the third day, the dry land rose up. The sea went swish along its edges. Up came the grass, up came the flower, up came the tree. And God saw that it was good.

On the fourth day came the sun, golden and warm. Came the moon, pale and calm. Came the stars, one, then another, then more. And God saw that it was good.

On the fifth day, the fish swam. Blub, blub. The little birds flew. Cheep, cheep. And God saw that it was good.

On the sixth day came the animals of the land. The ox, the sheep, the cat, the tiny ant. And God made a man and a woman, to care for it all. And God saw that it was very good.

On the seventh day, God rested. The whole wide world grew quiet. The sea went swish, very softly. And the stars stayed lit for you.

Now close your eyes, slowly, slowly. Good night, little one. Sleep well.
