It was the morning of October 13, 1917. An immense crowd was converging on Cova da Iria.

They came from all over Portugal. Some had walked for entire days. Wagons, carriages, automobiles, bicycles, and thousands on foot - all going to a simple field where three children said Our Lady appeared.

But there was a problem: it was raining torrentially! A cold October rain. The field turned to mud. People were getting soaked.

And worse: atheist journalists were there, mocking! "Let's see this 'miracle'!" they laughed. "Let's expose this farce!"

The sky was covered with gray and heavy clouds. There wasn't a ray of sunshine.

How could there be a miracle in this weather?

70,000 people were there! Elegant ladies with their umbrellas. Poor peasants. Priests. Skeptics. Believers. Journalists. Photographers.

All soaked. All in the mud. All waiting.

At noon, Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta arrived. The children, small and humble, walked through the massive crowd.

"There are the children!" they shouted.

"Close your umbrellas!" Lucia asked the crowd. "Our Lady is coming!"

And something incredible happened: all 70,000 people obeyed! They closed their umbrellas in the rain! They got even wetter!

Why? Because something in Lucia's tone of voice... they believed.

Then the lightning came! And Our Lady appeared over the holm oak!

But only the three children could see Her.

"What does the Lady want from me?" asked Lucia.

Our Lady answered:

"I have many things to ask," said Lucia. "Healing of the sick, conversions..."

"Some yes, others no," answered Our Lady. "They must amend their lives and ask pardon for their sins!"

And then She became very serious: "Let them offend Our Lord no more, for He is already much offended!"

And then, Our Lady opened Her hands. And the light reflected from them projected onto the sun!

"Look at the sun!" Lucia shouted to the crowd.

And it happened.

The rain stopped instantly! The clouds opened! And the sun appeared!

But it wasn't the normal sun. It was a silver disk that could be looked at without hurting the eyes!

And then... the sun began to DANCE!

Witnesses described what they saw:

The sun began to spin like a wheel of fire! Spinning, spinning, spinning faster and faster!

Then it began to cast rays of colored light in all directions - red, blue, yellow, green, purple!

The entire landscape changed color! The people, the trees, the ground - everything bathed in supernatural colored light!

"Miracle! Miracle!" shouted thousands of voices!

People fell to their knees in the mud, crying! Atheists began to pray! Sinners asked God's forgiveness aloud!

But then... something even more terrifying happened.

The sun seemed to break free from the sky!

It began to fall toward Earth!

"The sun is falling!" people screamed in terror!

"We're going to die!"

"It's the end of the world!"

Total panic! 70,000 people thought they were going to die crushed by the sun!

Mothers grabbed their children. Strong men cried. Everyone screamed for mercy!

The sun seemed bigger and bigger, closer, coming straight at them!

And then, at the last moment... the sun stopped!

It rose back to the sky. Returned to its normal place. Became still again.

The miracle had lasted about 12 minutes.

People slowly got up. Trembling. Crying. But alive!

And then they noticed something even more incredible: their clothes were completely dry!

Minutes before they were soaked by rain! Covered in mud! But now... dry! Clean!

The muddy ground... dry! As if it had never rained!

"Another miracle!" they shouted. "Our Lady dried us!"

The atheist journalists who had come to mock were in shock.

Avelino de Almeida, journalist for Portugal's largest anti-Catholic newspaper, wrote:

"Before the astonished eyes of that multitude... the sun trembled! It made abrupt movements never seen before! The sun 'danced' according to the typical expression of the peasants!"

Another journalist wrote: "The sun became pale and we could look at it. It looked like a disc of frosted silver spinning on itself!"

An atheist lawyer, Dr. José Almeida Garrett, professor at the University of Coimbra, wrote a detailed report:

"The sun sometimes seemed to detach itself from the firmament and advance on Earth! The heat could be felt increasing!"

Even skeptics had to admit: something supernatural happened!

Meanwhile, the three children had seen something more.

When Our Lady opened Her hands and the light projected onto the sun, the children saw three visions beside the sun:

First vision: Saint Joseph appeared holding the Child Jesus! Both blessed the world! It was the Holy Family!

Second vision: Adult Jesus appeared, blessing the world! Our Lady was at His side dressed in purple - Our Lady of Sorrows!

Third vision: Our Lady appeared alone, radiant - it was Our Lady of Mount Carmel!

Three visions! Showing different mysteries of faith!

Only the children saw them. But the entire crowd saw the sun dance!

After everything ended, the field was in uproar!

People laughed and cried at the same time! They embraced! They shouted with joy!

"Our Lady is real!"

"God exists!"

"I saw it with my own eyes!"

Many atheists converted on the spot! A man who had gone to mock fell to his knees screaming: "Forgive me, Lord! I will believe from now on!"

The sick were healed! A blind woman regained her sight! A paralyzed man walked!

There were thousands of conversions!

In the following days, newspapers around the world reported the event!

"SOLAR PHENOMENON IN FATIMA!" said the headlines.

Even anti-religious newspapers had to admit that something inexplicable happened!

Scientists tried to explain: "It was collective hysteria!" But how do 70,000 people have the same hallucination at the same time? Impossible!

"It was an atmospheric phenomenon!" But what phenomenon makes the sun seem to fall and then return? And dries 70,000 people and an entire field instantly?

There was no natural explanation!

It was a miracle. Pure and simple. God had spoken!

But why did God perform such a spectacular miracle?

To authenticate the message!

Our Lady had given important messages to the children. But many doubted. "They're just children making up stories!"

So God performed a miracle that no one could deny!

70,000 witnesses! Including atheists, journalists, scientists! Photographs! Reports!

Now no one could say it was an illusion!

Our Lady's message was real! And needed to be heard!

The Miracle of the Sun is considered the greatest public miracle of modern times!

Never have so many people witnessed a supernatural event so clearly!

It was God's seal on the apparitions of Fatima!

The Catholic Church carefully investigated for years. Interviewed witnesses. Examined evidence. Consulted scientists.

In 1930, the Bishop of Leiria officially declared:

Fatima was approved by the Church!

Today, the Shrine of Fatima is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world!

Millions come every year! From all countries! From all religions!

Even three Popes visited Fatima and consecrated the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary!

Saint John Paul II had special devotion to Fatima. When he was shot in 1981 (on May 13, anniversary of the first apparition!), he attributed his survival to Our Lady of Fatima!

He donated the bullet that almost killed him! It was placed in the crown of the image of Our Lady of Fatima!

The Miracle of the Sun teaches us profound lessons:
